Versatile – Les Litanies Du Vide - 55%

Versatile is a Swiss Industrial Black Metal quartet that has been around for roughly five years at time of writing. In that time they have released an EP, a Single and, in less than two weeks, a Full-length record. Said record, carrying the title Les Litanies Du Vide (which is French for ‘The Litany Of The Void’) will be containing previously-mentioned Single ”Monstre” – Alongside nine other brand-new offerings to the worlds stage.

These combined ten offering add up to a runtime of forty-two minutes of what can best be described as heavy Industrial Metal being soaked in a Black Metal atmosphere – While yes, many of the individual aspects of modern Black Metal are clearly present (mixing and mastering, vocal approach and even some of the drum riffs), it is clear from the get-go that the focus of the band has been more on the gothier side of things. Unsurprisingly so, since one of the founding members made up one half of the now disbanded act Geisterwald. Any further doubts as to the bands intentions can quite quickly and succinctly be put to rest by watching the music video for the track ”Morphée” (French for ‘Morpheus’ – Link below), which brings back memories of some of the early Deathstars music videos from back around the turn of the millenium. Although in that comparison I suppose it would only be prudent to point out that Versatile would be their younger, far more aggressive brother. But clearly related nonetheless.

Musically the band is definitely more on the technical side of things than the pure aggression Black Metal tends to favour – I once again circle back to the same statement I made in my last little scribble of how the band evokes faint memories of abandoned factories taken over to serve as impromptu venues for one hell of an evening. As such I would be remis not to recommend Versatile to anyone who enjoyed any of the releases of their kinsmen Borgne.
