Upon The Altar – Descendants Of Evil
16th November 2024Temple Of Decay – Anti Deus
Label: Godz Ov War / Release Date: 20th September 2024
Temple Of Decay is the Black/Death Metal project of Polish/Irish-living multi-instrumentalist Mortt – A project he has founded and refined since 2019. In that time he has produced and released three albums of these one being an EP and the remaining two Full-Lengths. The latter of which came out only a few months ago, carrying the title Anti Deus. And despite Temple Of Decay being their so far only musical project that I could dig up, if their newest outing is anything to go by, Mortt is a musician to keep an eye on.
The Polish seem to have a knack for mixing together Death and Black Metal – It is only a few days ago I had the privilege of pointing out that one of his kinsmen managed to do exactly that to my precise liking, despite normally being very averse to merging two or more genres together (that and any more progressive versions as well). And here we are, with Anti Deus being yet another prime example, split across six tracks of how you can seam together the sheer aggression of Black Metal with the organized mayhem of Death Metal while not compromising with the underlying tradition of either. Add on top of that thirty-two minutes of Polish lyrics high lightning the misanthropy of modern day existance with the occasional religious jab, and you have an album I would love to see being played in its entirety on a stage near me. It is unrelenting, uncompromising (as far as Google helps me understand the Polish lyrics) and angry at what the world around us has become. And it is quickly becoming one of my favourite examples of the genre, with “Klecha” (Polish for ‘Shaveling’) being my current favourite.
Recommended for fans of Batushka (old) and mid-era Anaal Nathrakh.
