Putrified – Death Darkness Decay
12th November 2024Primitive Warfare – Extinction Protocol
Label: Godz Ov War Productions / Release date: 10th May 2024
Released through the extreme-metal’ most friendly label in Europe, Godz Ov War Productions, Extinction Protocol is the debut album from US black/death metallers Primitive Warfare. The band/duo/two agents are; Pu239: (Atomic Matter Battery and Operatic Moral Torment) and U235: (Desecrator of Fate’s Strings and Sonant Nuclear Discharge) – pretty different and innovative names for these two individuals, and nasty description of their duties.
Extinction Protocol is a fine example of pure cutting edge old-school, raw and powerful mix of death and black metal paired with some additional grindcore influences. It brings eight tracks and 31 minutes of violent war metal aggression. Their goal is to ‘…force the horrors of war right into your face, through your skull, and out the other side’. After three spins of Extinction Protocol, I can confirm that Primitive Warfare know exactly what they’re doing with the style, and it felt exactly as warned by the band in the press statement.
Overall sound on this debut full-length is what I would call a ferocious & brutal sonic warfare, yet very skilled on both vocals and instruments. They sound tight, lethal and devastating, without compromise! Thus, there’s big variation within all eight tracks, but some things are always present in their sound, like a crushing guitars with nasty and speedy riffs, some groovy bass parts, punishing relentless drumming and varied dual vocals, consisting of some deep dark growls, insane grindcore grunts and some hellish & desperate screams. All of these components, when composed and written like the case is with Extinction Protocol, creates this coherent and effective release that you want to listen on constant repeat.
What I enjoyed most about Extinction Protocol is the fact that, with minor use of samples in the opening track “Pulpit of the Conqueror (Mutually Assured Desecration)”, the band avoids to the filler way. It makes it even more listenable listening pleasure. My favourite tracks are the second song named “Nuclear Regression”, simply because it’s the best and catchiest song on the album, and the title track “Extinction Protocol”, mainly due to this marching and punshing drums and a classy ending of the song.
Production is classy, crispy and with an constant atmosphere of a war. If this description is not enough to convince you in the brutal and blasphemous nature of this release, then just take a look at the cover artwork, and band’s logo, it should reveal the real nature of this opus.
Although released a few months ago, I think you should try to get yourself a copy of this furious and violent eight-tracker debut from Primitive Warfare. Highly recommended for all worshippers of a primitive war metal mayhem and bands such as Satyricon, God Dethroned, Hail of Bullets, Gorgoroth, Revenge, Benighted, etc.
