Formed 10 years ago in one of the most beautiful cities on earth (and largest city in Türkiye) Istanbul, Persecutory are a black metal quartet who ‘spreads the majestic and satanic spirit of black metal to the ashes of the universe and beyond’. Since the foundation of the band line-up has changed a couple of times, and currently it looks like this; Tyrannic Profanator (vocals), Infectious Torment (guitars), Deathbed (bass) & Kyle (drums).

Their latest material (they already have two albums under their belt) is this 23-minute EP entitled The Glorious Persecution, consisting of 3 wrathful pieces, namely; “Infernal Gateway to Watchers”, “Ecstatic Demonlords” and “The Glorious Persecution”. It’s been released less than two months ago via Godz ov War Productions from Poland, as with band’s previous albums.

As stated above, the opening song on The Glorious Persecution EP is called “Infernal Gateways to Watchers”. It’s nearly seven minute long track, where the music is massive from the very first opening tone – with this malevolent riff, a lot of groove, blasting drums, harsh and snarling vocals and massive groovy bass lines. They achieved here a perfect balance between grim blasting aggression and melodic & atmospheric darkness. Up next is a song called, “Ecstatic Demonlords”, which has been announced with a horrifying and shocking scream. Further on, it’s been supplemented with this sickening and menacing riff, before exploding into blast beats and fierce violence. This makes “Ecstatic Demonlords” a well-rounded song that is worth your attention. This three-track EP ends with the title cut, “The Glorious Persecution”. From the very beginning of the song, it sounds like a battle black metal, being loud, bombastic and menacing, almost like a march to war, an overwhelming march of darkness! Thus, it’s a dark, atmospheric and hostile piece, that is the longest of the three tracks presented here. It definitely ends the EP with a thriving, successful and potent number.

The production on The Glorious Persecution is modern and clean, but without being too polished. It’s crispy and with great instrumentation where it’s been paid attention to smallest sonic details.

In short; on The Glorious Persecution, Persecutory offers black metal without compromise! The Glorious Persecution has been recorded, mixed & mastered by Emre Bingol and Can Gelgec, while Alex Shadrin of ‘Nether Temple Design’ is responsible for beautiful artwork.

The Glorious Persecution hits the mark and as such I would recommend it for all worshippers of hellish & blackened deat metal and acts as Marduk, Belphegor, Mayhem, Behemoth and other, mainly Scandinavian, acts from the early-to-mid 1990s black metal scene.
