7th January 2025Origin Of Infinity – Exorcism
Label: Dead Maggoty Productions / Release date: 27th November 2024
Origin Of Infinity is a progressive metal band from Děčín, Czech Republic. The band is founded in late 2017 where the current lineup looks like this; Jan Venzhöfer (vocals), Vladimír “Vladin” Novák (guitar), Jakub Vácha (guitar), Miroslav “Levi” Kočegura (drums) and Honza Kapák (guest on bass). Two years after the release of their second record After The Slumber this hard-working and productive metal collective offering brand new material to the fans.
Exorcism is the moniker of their latest five-tracker EP, released a couple of months ago via Dead Maggoty Productions. It contains five relatively short (even when talking in a classic death metal terms) with total playing time of accurately 14 minutes. Due to the short nature of all five tracks, there’s not a single moment of boredom. It’s one of the advantages of releasing EPs, because there’s a higher concentration of strong moments and it’s usually both coherent, composed- and well-mixed. It’s exactly what Exorcism is about, keeping fans satisfied and providing them with a much needed modern death metal sonic assault.
It starts with the short opening intro called “Breathless”. It’s an instrumental track which successfully sets a dark and brooding tone. It mostly rely on intricate guitar interplay of band’s two guitarists. The first vocal track is called “When Dying Is Glorious”, which together with the self-titled “Exorcism”, pull more towards a modern and more technical death metal. The whole surrounding atmosphere is somehow oppressive and suffocating, something one would more expect from a black or doom metal act. Even so, it works perfectly here, with a blend of harsh growls and higher-pitched screaming vocals, powerful and precise punchy drums, intricate dual guitar work and a solid basslines with its different textures and layers bringing in more chaotic approach to their sound. Next song to be presented on Exorcism is the one called “Summoning of Own Demons”. This one is quite different to its two predecessors as it has more of a deathcore style with some superb technical structures and the already mentioned captivating and melancholic atmosphere. The closing one titled “Perish by Fear” is the second instrumental track. It serves as a nice and harmonic closure possessing even a bit more melancholic and atmospheric touch. Definitely worthy of an album finale.
The production quality is professional and well executed. The instruments are generally well-mixed, each element clearly audible without sacrificing the overall heaviness of their trademark death metal sound. This professional production underscores the band’s technical skills and commitment to their craft.
Lastly, as the title for the short opener, this EP leaves you breathless and begging for more. The band has still not reached their hights, thus there’s still some room for further developing of their sound achieving its full potential. At least I know that I hope to hear more from this Czech quartet in the near future! Especially recommended for fans of traditional death metal modestly mixed with elements of deathcore, progressive and technical metal.
