What do you get if you merge the old-fashioned aggression of American Death Metal act Nunslaughter with the repentless, incessant drums of equally American Black Metal act Grand Belial’s Key? In this modern day and age, founded back in 2018, it correlates with the Black/Death Metal hybrid duet Misanthropik Torment who, since their foundation, has so far released an impressive eleven Full-length albums in nearly half that many years.

Two of these were released last year, with only six months between them so at the very least the band cannot be accused of being lazy nor uninspired – As the former of these two Full-lengths, Ecdycis clearly attests to.

The album contains eight tracks overall, adding up to a runtime of roughly twenty-five minutes – Which granted, I often point out is a bit on the short end for a Full-length, but since they instead decided to follow it up with yet another six months later I will let it slide this once.

Musically I am struggling to give a more detailed or even visual description than the one given above – It is very American and very old-school, incorporating aspects from both of its parent genres as seen through the lens of the Americas. Fast, aggressive, angry, relentless. Very good and efficient as far as burning through a significant amount of energy fast as the track “Believe In Nothing Question Everything” below clearly attests. Normally I would likewise point out that they have chosen a genre that is heavily oversaturated and hence very difficult to distinguish themselves from the competition – But seeing how productive they are, they just might win that battle through sheer quantity alone. Quite difficult to not be noticed within a given subgenre if you are half of said genre. Which again, I in and of itself find very impressive.
