Dark Funeral – The Secrets Of The Black Arts (Reissue)
6th February 2024Fall of Leviathan – In Waves
12th February 2024Infected Priest / Human Target – Split
Label: Nihilistic Holocaust / Release date: 21st December 2023
What we got here is a relatively newly released split-tape containing the music from two brutal bands from Finland. It’s been released via French-based Nihilistic Holocaust Records, which is now established as a one of the leading underground labels, who’ve specialized in releasing obscure and extreme metal releases. This particular Split tape is no exception, as released on black pro tape and limited to 100 copies.
First band to present their music on this Split is Infected Priest, who plays an evil and grinding death metal. Infected Priest is composed of members of Saattoväki (oldschool death metal from Tampere) & Murder Hollow (doom/death/sludge metal from Tampere). They present their style of death metal on seven (7 ordinary tracks + a short lo-fi intro, entitled “Siperian Circulation”) rather short, brutal and deadly tracks. In other words; they play an old-school death metal mixed with elements of grind and a further touch of gory satanic sickness. The band has already released two EPs plus one demo prior to the release of this Split. Thus, all the seven songs + Intro are taken from the …Of The Flesh EP released in 2019. All tracks here are very short, where the longest one clocking in a little over 2 minutes (2.13 exactly), it’s a third track called “Needle and Thread”. Pretty straight-forward, extreme and confident band, esp. when it comes to their song-writing and composing of the songs.
On Side B we have Human Target, another Finnish (Tampere) band that is even more into the old-school death metal, without the aforementioned grind influences. However, they have this almost bizarre take on their sound, very reminiscent of an old Carcass, Napalm Death or Bolt Thrower, and similar, mainly extreme Finnish acts of the 90s, with equally exceptional reputation. They present themselves with five tracks that are taken from their self-titled EP. Prior to the release of this Split tape, they’ve only released a three-track demo in 2021. The overall sound of Human Target is therefore a bit clearer, where esp. the vocals that are more varied and more classic death metal grunting ones, compared to their collegues from Infected Priest.
In conclusion; if you prefer your metal old-school, extreme, sick and fierce, then do not hesitate to get this tape. Hail the dead! Praise the corpse!
