Origin Of Infinity – Exorcism
9th January 2025Fessus – Pilgrims Of Morbidity / Thresholds Of Morbidity
Label: Darkness Shall Rise / Release Date: 1st July 2024
Fessus is an Austrian Death Metal quartet of unknown heritage, so to speak – The only thing I have been able to ascertain with some certainty is that their inception is at the latest somewhere in the year 2023 since they released their first Demo that year. The year after that, they went on to release a Live album and know, through a partnership with Darkness Shall Rise, both of these have been merged together into their first proper Full-length release entitled Pilgrims Of Morbidity / Thresholds Of Morbidity.
Musically, the band has many the hallmarks that I thoroughly enjoy about the genre: The music is deceptively simplistic, exploiting the explosive potential of relentlessly assaulting the listener with blast beats, unyielding guitars and an everpresent bass, all the while guttural growls promise unending malice through your ear canals.
After the first spin, I quickly seemed to find their inspiration in bands such as Autopsy and Obituary – Albeit sped up quite a bit for the modern audience, which most definitely does not work against their performance. On top of that, I do like how the album is, essentially, two albums in one – Namely, the Demo mentioned above, with the Live Album thrown on top, adding up to eight tracks and a runtime of nearly thirty-nine minutes. And with three of the tracks being first the studio version, then the live one. Genuinely as honest an advertisement as you can get, as far as I am concerned.
And definitely worth adding to the collection of any avid Death Metal fan out there.
