Mortal Strike – For the Loud and the Aggressive (10 Year Anniversary Edition)
14th January 2025Ebola – Hell’s Death Metal
Label: Old Tempe / Release date: 29th September 2011
Never before did I had to do a review of a material that is 14 years old, while having almost no information about the act, nevertheless that’s exactly the case with Hell’s Death Metal. It’s a second album of Polish death metal horde – Ebola. The band was formed in 2000 and after some Demos and Split compilations, they released their debut full-length album entitled, Infernal Revelation. Then, after four years of silence, the band got back with a 2011 sophomore album, Hell’s Death Metal. In the time of the recording of this second album, the lineup of the band was; Shyha (bass & vocals), Pavulon (drums) and Mihu (guitars & vocals).
Hell’s Death Metal consists of 12 tracks, where the closing one has no real title. In other words; it consists of eleven hellish, profane and hateful tracks with their massive and crushing sound. Additionally, at the end, they include also an industrial track by Horologium. Furthermore, as the album title might suggest, Hell’s Death Metal is a straight forward and aggressive piece of old-school death metal. Hell’s Death Metal is half an hour long journey in a company with this hellish trio from Poland. It’s on old-school death metal with no compromise, where the stale old-school atmosphere moves you into the abyss of the early nineties.
Once again, a special thanks to the Catholic Church in Poland for being an endless source of fucking badass lyrical inspiration for many of the country’s extreme metal bands. Polish extreme metal has a tradition of attacking the Catholic Church in the country. The band Ebola is no exception, and if you’re up for a round of old death metal – then this is where you should tip in. Thus, as the case was with Infernal Revelation the lyrical themes on this album were still about Anti-Christianity, blasphemy, darkness and similar more or less typical death metal topics.
Now a few words on what matters most, the sound of Hell’s Death Metal. This unholy Polish trio employs some heavily distorted and low-tuned guitars, mostly played with tremolo picking technique, deep growling vocals, aggressive and powerful drumming, featuring double kick and blast beat techniques. It’s all delivered in an abrupt tempo where key- and time signature constantly change. It’s all delivered in a terrifyingly tight approach both to the songwriting and recording of the songs. In terms of production, Hell’s Death Metal has a well-partnered production that sounds incredible, heavy and deep, yet without crossing into too much muddyness.
Especially recommended for old-school fans of death metal and acts such as Autopsy, Death, Gorefest, Morbid Angel, Entombed etc.
