We have covered Polish extreme bands on numerous occasions on these pages and this time is no exception. Czarna Magia (my limited knowledge of Polish language tells me that it stands for ‘Black Magic’) is the moniker of this one-man black metal project founded by Balrog. The project was founded back in 2017 and Balrog is still a sole creator of the whole proces beginning with music, lyrics, recording and mixing.

On December 13th he released the third full album entitled Morbid Affection to Darkness. It comes three years after the last album, Merciless Trap Of Civilization. The current album follows the path from its predecessors, but this time by adding some new ingredients. Thus, first thing noticeable is that this new material is even darker and more turpistic/depraved than before?! Nevertheless, Morbid Affection to Darkness is 42 minutes of music created in solitude from the very beggining of “Chaos Devotion” to the very last tone of “The Shamanic Song Corrupted By Evil And Technology”.

Judging from these two song titles alone one can sense that the (venomous) lyrics are mainly rooted in the occultism, chaos and misanthropy, which express the anti-civilization/anti-religion/anti-humanity attitude of an author. Majority of the lyrics are written in English, apart from the song “Turpistyczna Orgia Zmysłów” that is written in his native Polish. Apart from the opening and closing epic tracks, I would like you to pay attention to a title track, “Morbid Affection to Darkness” (listen below). It’s very unsettling and chilling, morbid, dismal and misanthropic mid-paced track featuring vicious and howling vocals, boiling and scratchy riffing, haunting and whirling bass lines and finally tormented and steady drums.

Instruments are harsh and very raw sounding throughout all eight compositions, while the vocals are evil, dark and possessed. The mix of instruments and vocals came out fine, helping in creating this dark and evil atmosphere without space for any light. The production is equaly primitive, grim and sinister, as one would expect from this kind of an uncompromising and evil black metal, as it’s matching perfectly the overall style of Czarna Magia.

Recommended for worshippers of Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem, Bathory, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost and similar old-school black metal giants.
