After the release of Odd School (2022), Dutch band Butt Plug issued this follow-up album entitled Another World (2023). Another World is a mini-album consisting of six (plus a funny ‘Butt Plug Call’ at the end of the album) rather fast songs. It comes in 6 panel digipack CD, handnumbered and ltd to 200 pcs.

On this mini-album the quintet from Roosendaal (The Netherlands) delivers a mix of hardcore, punk and a dose of heavy metal. It features some fast aggressive guitars with hard and edgy riffs, powerful and present drums with intense and rapid beats, snare bass, and a shouty vocals conveying raw emotion and urgency.

The overall sound is clean and ‘fat’ where all instruments and the vocals are present in the mix, which makes it quite listenable. The band constantly pushes the limits, as there’re no rules allowed. It’s all, according to the band’ statement ‘…music against the daily shit that gets poured out by media and the likes’. The lyrical style tends to be straightforward and blunt, avoiding complex metaphors for more direct expression.

My favourite tracks are the opening title track “Another World”, a strong introduction to their crossover sound, then “The Rage Within”, mainly due to the tasty and highly effective rhythms, and finally this bonus track, “Butt Plug Call”.

Butt Plug is not a standard band, their style of playing is characterized by its raw intensity, both musically and thematically, and its commitment to a culture of authenticity and activism. If it resonates with you, then do not hesitate to experience their eclectic mix of hardcore/punk/crossover & contemporary metal with a grin on your face!

Lastly; I think Butt Plug returns with a nice and crispy mini-album Another World, album that will give a pleasure for all fans of Primus, Fugazi, Textures, Code Orange, Mindforce, Madball etc.
