Bafomet (Formerly knows as Sigil of Baphomet) is a Japanese Black & Speed Metal horde, founded in 2015. The band is comprising of Noctisadistum, Vladphemer and Branded Rebel. The unholy trio is ready to unleash their second full-length beast entitled Baptized In Goat Blood via Iron Fist Productions. Prior to the release of this sophomore album they’ve released a few demos, splits, live album, a compilation, and a debut 2022 debut full-length F.O.A.D.I.F.
To be frank, I was not familiar with this trio prior to receiving their new material for review. So, in the last couple of days, I was not only listening to this new record multiple times, but also checking out their previous recordings. What I can tell about this new album is that they’ve managed to evolve both when it comes to the musicianship, song-writing and what I would call as logical evolution in the style og playing. Where they on F.O.A.D.I.F. mixed 80s traditional heavy metal with aggressive punk, on this new 10-tracker they sound more raw, but also more chaotic and charismatic.
Alone by looking at the album moniker, but also some song titles, you know exactly what you are in for here. It’s satanic, devilish and uncompromising poisonous blend of ‘Traditional Black & Heavy Metal with a Punk flavor on it’. Opening track is an instrumental self-entitled “Baptism – Goat Blood”, being sharp and guitar driven song. Neck-breaking speed metal riffing, razorblade vocals and screaming guitars takes over next on the following number – “Lucifer”. Worshipping of the devil continues on the tempestuous follower “Beast Of Chaos”. Fans of gnarly and snarly vocals should listen to the next killer song named “Scythe Of The Ripper”, having this old-school 80s Black Metal/Punk vibe. “Resurrection” is ‘closing’ Side A aka Side Goat, which is almost pure black metal opus from the early 1990s.
Side Blood opens with a devastating and ripping “Leviathan’s Priest”, a track reminiscent of early Bathory, mainly due to nice guitar harmonics and deep and razorsharp riffing. “Evil Force” is another authentic song with an uncompromising approach to the song-writing. “Witch’s Curse” is another banger with some punchy drums sound and killer guitar riffs. Meanwhile, “Take The Knife” is another hammering satanic sonic assault with razorsharp riffing, intense hammering of the drums and a few slow down moments. They end of a high note with a vitriolic closer “Heavy Metal Avenger”, with pretty authentic lyrics and definitely an unique approach to the song-writing.
All songs from Baptized In Goat Blood are pretty much precise and delivered in a convincing manner. Occasionally they slow down with some traditional heavy metal parts, but most of the time it’s a piece of brutal, aggressive and violent Metal/Punk. Thus, Baptized In Goat Blood is a heavy metal thunder, a sonic assault, a lethal dose that will engage all worshippers of bands such as Bathory, Sabbat, Venom, Nifelheim, Black Souls, Death Side etc.
