One of the hardest working and most promising Serbian poets Milan B. Popovic have recently released his latest book of poems entitled Na Kori Integralnog Hleba I Olovci. The book is very creative yet not a traditional, but rather a personal book. It is a collection of poems dealing with and about food and obsession of eating. In other words; life here is summered and examined through food culture. Quite unusual theme for any poet, but as you know from his past work, Milan Popovic is unpredictable and creative often crossing the invisible boarders of what is socially acceptable to write about.
Poet portraits his enormous appetite for good fatty food, but simultaneously recognizes that food is the poison contemning his heavy body. It is like an eternal struggle between stomach and mind. Appetite turns into eating disorder and food obsession and poet is even thinking of Liposuction. Hunger is also seen here as the key to understanding the nature. Hunger as reflection of poet’s state of mind in a very cynical and satirical manner, by a rather bizarre way. What Milan really wanted is to be direct and open-minded about the themes that are urgent to get addressed in our society, but yet are taboo.
