Jelonek is a musician, instrumentalist, and composer who’s now ready with his debut album, entitled simply – Jelonek.
Jelonek is an instrumental fusion of classical violin and rock-metal with an pronounced eastern European/Polish touch. From the very first sounds of the opening track “BaRock” it is obvious that this guy is first and foremost talented violinist, one of the best of its kind in Poland. What we have here is 14 instrumental masterpieces embracing classical music, art and metal. However, there’re also numerous shifts in style raging from funk, jazz, orchestral to this predominant Eastern European vibe.
On the less positive note I would say that the production work is not the best one, being very clean and sterile, whether I prefer more raw and powerful sound to compensate for mellow rhythms. The same goes more or less for the artwork on this release.
I guess the selling note from the press paper is the most accurate description of this material; this is not another ‘metal meets classic’ album, like the one from Apocalyptica and Nightwish even though there’re some similarities. This is Bach and Mozart on adrenaline and fuelled by fire!
If you’re into this particular kind of music, I’m sure this album cannot be missed, because it is something very unique and innovative. For all the others; I’m afraid it is too boring listening.
