"We wanted this to be a behemoth of an album, a real beast," is what Morgan Lander herself said about their newest release In The Black. Kittie has been around for a long time and this, their fifth album, shows that those years have not been wasted! An all-together fantastic album that combines a plethora of good things into one single awesome entity that no metal fan can be without.
The production on this album is really good - everything sounds just perfect and there is no point where one thing distorts or outshines the other, no, it has been done very professionally and that is such a nice thing to experience - no one knows better how a bad production can mess up an album than Morgan Lander herself, as she has mentioned in an interview regarding earlier albums. Added to this, you have lyrics that are powerful, meaningful and simply just so catchy that they will undoubtedly stick. Masterful use of the various instruments and the unequalled synergy between the pure singing and the harder, meaner growling is the best testament of all that the girls of Kittie have grown into something complete. In The Black assures us that Kittie is ready to move from good to greater.
It is hard to suggest any songs on that album, they are all magnificent really. Forced to chose, I would say "My Plague," "Cut Throat" and "Ready Aim Riot" are amongst my favorite ones on the album, though.
For any person who has ever been a fan of Kittie, this album is a must-have. For any of those out there who can't quite put their finger on why, but do not really like Kittie, this is an album that will make you change your mind and for all of those out there not liking them at all; you are missing out, now more than ever!
Wishing Kittie the best of luck with their European tour, it is about time to wrap up the review.
Awesome review Patrick! It's all I ever wanted the world to know about 'em! From the very beginning, they were perfect for me, and as you said they are getting better and better, which is a miracle! They are all I ever wanted from music, and now more than ever it's time to show all those fuckers that they are not just girls in a metal bend! They are better than many male bands! My favorite (in between) is My Plague, along with Kingdom Come! I cannot separate those two! God bless Mercedes, it's all I can say! WES WES
I agree Wes, that Patrick did wrote an amzing review and the truth is that Kittie is getting stronger and better... It's always hard to be objective, you either like or don't like one band, but we have to stay objective while doing reviews... great job, yes...
Better to be hated for who you are than loved for who you are not!
